Why scheduled servicing matters

Signs your automatic door needs attention
Most automatic door failures give warning first. If an entrance is showing any of the following, it should be inspected before it stops entirely.

How often should automatic doors be serviced?
EN 16005 requires powered pedestrian doors to be inspected at intervals set by the manufacturer and by the risk assessment for the site, carried out by a competent person. In practice a low-traffic entrance may need fewer visits than a busy retail or hospital door, which is why we set the schedule against door type and daily usage rather than applying one figure to every site.
What does an automatic door maintenance contract include?
A contract covers scheduled visits to every powered entrance on your site, including mechanical inspection of the operator, drive and tracks, verification of activation and safety sensors, checks on force, speed and detection zones, and a written service record for each door. Faults and recommended remedial works are logged so facilities teams have a clear picture of the asset.
Do you maintain automatic doors you did not install?
Yes. NS Motion services and maintains automatic doors supplied by other manufacturers as well as our own systems. If you are taking a building on, changing supplier, or have inherited entrances with no service history, we can survey what is there and quote a contract against the actual door schedule.
Can one contract cover multiple sites?
Yes. A single maintenance contract can cover every entrance across a portfolio, keeping all sites on the same servicing schedule and record system. Because we cover both the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland with the same team, groups with sites on both sides of the border can use one supplier rather than two.
Is automatic door servicing a legal requirement?
Automatic doors are work equipment and shared building assets, so the duty holder is responsible for keeping them safe for the people using them. EN 16005 is the recognised safety standard for powered pedestrian doorsets and sets out the inspection regime. Scheduled servicing with written records is how most organisations evidence that duty to insurers, auditors and safety officers.
What happens if a door fails between service visits?
Contract customers get call-out response on the terms agreed in the contract, with priority response available for entrances where a failure closes the building. Our engineers attend equipped to diagnose sensor, motor, belt, control and track faults on site, so most issues are resolved without a second visit.
